AZ Hunting Unit : 1
Location Type: Arizona Lake
AZ Region: White Mountains
Location Description:
One of the prettiest lakes on the Reservation! During the summer, rainbow trout fishing from boats is good although bank fishing west of the boat dock is also good. This lake contains all four species of trout: Apache, brook, brown and rainbow. This lake often produces large browns in the spring and fall. The lake is accessible year-round. Camping, cabins, RV park, store and boat rentals are available.

Surrounded by lofty mountain peaks covered with spruce, pine and aspen, the serene setting of Hawley Lake has become one of the most popular attractions on the Fort Apache Reservation.

Hawley Lake offers mild summer temperatures for those seeking to escape the searing desert heat. Visitors may enjoy excellent fishing, sail boating, or an ideal environment just to kick back and forget life's pressures.

Beautiful lake. Good fishing too. Camp sites are not marked. All permits (camping, fishing etc.,) purchased at the Hawley Lake store have to be paid for in cash. There were several food stands on the way to the lake and near the lake store. Great fry bread!

camp ground is on a first come first serve basis. you must buy a reservation permit at any store that carries them K-mart in show low is a good one to pick up last minute things and get your permit. Just be advised that even if you have a permit if the grounds are full you will not camp there. you can get all the phone numbers and any info you need off their website and they are really nice. The cabins are clean but pretty tight together.
